Macular degeneration (exaggerated age changes in the retina) is my passion. This is the leading cause of blindness in New Zealand but it can be treated if symptoms are realised early. I also perform cataract (cloudy lens) surgery and retinal surgery.

Our facility is great because it’s all centred around eyes. The staff are passionately interested in eyes and that’s all they do. They’re focused and highly professional about their work. Within the group, we have every sub-specialty covered and we share knowledge together.

Outside of work, I love to travel with my wife who is an ophthalmic nurse and we find it’s more fun with exercise thrown in. I’ve trekked in Denali and done a microlight over Victoria Falls in Africa.
